Executive Summary

As the theory dictates, corporate investors can offer far more than mere financial support; namely management know-how, marketing support and access to research and development tools. In this study we aim to investigate the value of the corporate investor’s contribution. We will address recently founded technology companies who have a corporate investor, and also those recently founded companies who have had a corporate investor withdraw his investment.

The core element of this study is based on the exchange of relations between the two parties. If the collaboration is to culminate in increased advantage for the newly-formed technology company, certain interactions have to be ascertained. Using a method derived from theoretical design concepts we will measure these interactions, and assess the value which the recently founded technology company assigns to them. Subsequently, we will endeavor to determine both the objective, and the non-financial contributory factors in successful corporate investor collaboration.

All integral questions are based on scientifically proved concepts which have already been tried and tested in other studies. Academic standards necessitate a line of questioning to which the answers may not be clearly apparent at first sight. Frequently, the questions appear repetitive. This structure is necessary in order to obtain valid results. Once the final evaluation is complete the sense behind this methodology will become evident.

By carrying out this study we are not merely making a contribution to the field of research into recently founded technology companies, but also working towards developing strategies for the successful management of relations to external parties, including corporate investors.

This study is the most extensive of its kind! To commence, we will be questioning recently founded companies from more than ten countries! Make sure that you take part too!
